Shuang ZHAO (China) Classification games, 2009 FIBA U19 World Championship for Women, Bangkok. 01 August 2009.
BANGKOK (FIBA U19 World Championship for Women) - China, finally, played with their wonted rhythm but that effort coming rather too late in the Championship, it only helped them to a 11th place finish, with the 76-59 win against Japan on Saturday.
China had finished 11th two years ago too. Japan, however finished a placed higher than their 13th place finish in 2007.
Both, however, finished far away from their best ever finishes – China winning the bronze in 2005 at Tunis and Japan making the last eight in 1993 at Seoul.
Yukine Abe led the scoring for the game with 27 points – converting five of her 13 three-pointer attempts, but finished on the losing side.
Kana Motayama was the other notable scorer for Japan with 14 points.
Zheng Bowen led the scoring for China with 18 points and Zhao Shuang contributed 14.
