BANGKOK (FIBA U19 World Championship for Women) - Korea staved off a second quarter rally to down hosts Thailand 66-55 in a 13-16 classification round game on Monday.
Korea, now will take on African champions Mali for the 13th place. Thailand will play Tunisia in an effort to avoid the wooden spoon.
Suwimon Sangtad, the highest scorer for Thailand with 15 points, scored eight of them in the second quarter as the hosts fought back to level the scores 31-all going into the changing rooms. Thailand outscored Korea 22-15 in during this time.
But Korean centre Lee Jeonghyun, who had scored nine points in the first half, added nine more in the third quarter to put her team back on track.
Korea had no trouble after that.
Lee went on to top-score the game with 21 points. Ahn Hyojin converted four of her eight three-pointer attempts to record 14 points.
