BANGKOK (FIBA U19 World Championship for Women) - Canada overcame a scratchy first quarter to beat China 75-67 to take the fourth quarterfinal spot from Group F eight-final round on Wednesday.
Canada who thus made the last eight after 24 years, will take on Australia in the quarterfinals on Friday.
China, who needed a win and by a sizable margin at that began rather well to call the shots initially.
But once again Canada found their rhythm there was no stopping Rich Chambers girls.
Kayla Alexander who had only a steal for her presence in the first quarter came into her own in the second scoring 10 points and collecting seven rebounds to put Canada on the right track.
Alexander went on to finish with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Taryn Wicijowski was consistent in all the quarters and scored a game-high 20 points and 13 rebounds.
Natalie Achonwa contributed 14 points.
Lu Wen was the highest scorer for China with 20 points. Zhao Shuang had 19 and Cheng Dan 18 points.
