BANGKOK (FIBA U19 World Championship for Women) - Russia's solidity in the middle two quarters came to the fore as the European nation eked out a 67-62 win over China in the Group F eight-final round on Monday.
China outscored their rivals in the first and final quarters, but Russia's margin of difference when they won the third and quarters was far higher compared to that of the Chinese.
As a result Russia recorded their fourth successive win in the Championship even as China fell to 1-3.
Anastasia Logunova led the scoring for the game with 17 points and 13 rebounds as Anastasiya Shilova and Tatiana Gregoryeva contributed 10 points each.
Ding Yuan converted both her three-pointer attempts and returned a team-high 16 points, but unfortunately for China all those points came in the first three quarters.
Qiu Siye and Zheng Bowen both had 11 points, with the former effecting three assists.
China now face the unenviable task of needing to win both the remaining games - against Japan and Canada.
